After a comprehensive eye examination your eye doctor custom designs contact lenses specifically for your eyes that are worn while sleeping to be removed in the morning. Upon removal the cornea maintains its flattened shape for the remainder of the day allowing a patient not to have to wear any glasses or contact lenses.
The Process of corneal therapy
The doctor measures the curvature of the cornea using the corneal topographer using enhanced computer software to help custom design the lenses. Next, the diagnostic lenses will be designed and ordered then placed on the patients eyes to help determine the proper lens. The doctor then prescribes the contact lenses overnight with the appropriate follow up evaluations to make any alterations to the contact lens and check on a patient’s progress. Generally, one pair of lenses are needed for the therapy, but additional lenses may be required to achieve the desired results.
Benefits of corneal therapy
Orthokeratology, corneal moulding, corneal reshaping or corneal therapy is an excellent alternative to surgery and wearing glasses and frees a patient from eye irritations such as perspiration, dust, wind, and temperature. There are no more blind spots caused by frame or lens edges and one can wear “regular” fashion sunglasses, get up at night or in the morning and see, go swimming and skiing, drive and be able to see in cases of emergencies. People in occupations that are hindered by the use of glasses or contacts are good candidates for corneal moulding, corneal reshaping or corneal therapy, such as pilots, policemen, firemen, athletes, etc...
